Puerto Ricans Santiago-Acevedo win Women’s event in Nicaragua

 

MONTELIMAR, Nicaragua, November 1, 2009 – Puerto Rico claimed its only title in the 2009 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit thanks to the victory of women’s pair of Yarleen Santiago and Dariam Acevedo in the last stop of the year, the Nicaragua tournament.

 

The Puerto Ricans had a perfect tournament and in the final match defeated Costa Rica (Alfaro-Morales) by score of 22-20, 21-19. The final was a seesaw battle with both pairs trading leads but in the late stages of every set the blocking of Santiago neutralized the attacks of Natalia Alfaro combined also with the accurate offense. Mexicans Miramontes-Virgen take home fourth title

 

MONTELIMAR, Nicaragua, November 1, 2009 – The Mexican pair of Aldo Miramontes and Juan Virgen won their fourth men’s title of 2009 by dominating the last stop of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit.

 

Mexico dominated a dramatic final match by edging Jamaica (Lewis-Wilson) by score of 21-15, 18-21, 15-10. It was the fourth crown for the Mexican in the last five events they took part. The duo of Dominican Republic (Perez-Recio) claimed a historical triumph by defeating Costa Rica 2 (Araya-Guevara) to take the third place for first time ever. The score was 21-13, 17-21, 15-11. Dramatic closing of women Saturday’s action at Nicaragua

 

MONTELIMAR, Nicaragua, October 31, 2009 – The women’s action closed on Saturday with three dramatic matches that completed the four semi finalists of the Nicaragua Tournament, the last stop of the 2009 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit.

 

Costa Rica (Alfaro-Morales) battled 75 minutes to defeat United States (Smith-Lowe) in three sets. The score of the match, which had big support from local fans and also the Costa Ricans who traveled to this city, was 21-16, 27-29, 15-11. More Spanish


Dominican Republic, Mexico and Jamaica are in semi finals at Nicaragua

 

MONTELIMAR, Nicaragua, October 31, 2009 – Three teams have secured berths in the semi final stage of the Nicaragua Tournament the last stop of the 2009 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit. The fourth competitor will be decided in Sunday’s morning.

 

México (MIramontes-Virgen) was the first pair to advance by defeating Jamaica (Lewis-Wilson) by score of 21-15, 21-13. Later on, the Jamaicans made their move to the final four by defeating Guatemala (Bolaños-Garrido) 21-17, 21-14. More Spanish


Costa Ricans Araya and Guevara upset USA team

 

MONTELIMAR, Nicaragua, October 30, 2009 – Top-seeded Americans Vince Zanzuchi and Kevin Lynch suffered a surprising loss to Costa Ricans Marcelo Araya and Jonathan Guevara in the first day of the Nicaragua Tournament, the last leg of the 2009 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit.

 

The Costa Ricans entered the match against USA following a three-set battle against Nicaragua 1 (Calderon-López) 21-14, 18-21, 15-10. Then they performed the biggest surprise of Day One by defeating the USA team by score of 21-15, 21-19.Now the USA will have to battle for a semi final berth.  More Spanish


Puerto Ricans Santiago and Acevedo win two matches on Friday's action

 

MONTELIMAR, Nicaragua, October 30, 2009 – The teams of Puerto Rico, United States,  Mexico and Canada had the best results in the first day of action at the Nicaragua Tournament, the last leg of the 2009 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit.

 

The Puerto Rican pair of Yarleen Santiago and Darian Acevedo won their two matches of the day In the first one they beat Belize (Cadle- Blanco) 21-4, 21-5 and then defeated the duo of Costa Rica (Alfaro-Morales) 21-19, 21-10. Nicaragua’s leg starts on Friday with 16 matches

 

MONTELIMAR, Nicaragua, October 29, 2009 – The last stage of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit kicks off today with 16 matches being played, under a double elimination format, on the shores of the Pacific Ocean and a total purse of US$10,000.

 

The General Technical Meeting took place on Thursday night chaired by Nelson Ramirez, Executive Director of NORCECA, Arnaldo Sanchez, President of the Beach Volleyball Commission and Bertha Cuadra, President of the Nicaraguan Volleyball Federation. More Spanish
